Washington Post Layoffs - February 4, 2026
The Washington Post is laying off a reported 30% of their staff. While the majority are reported to be in the news and sports reporting divisions, this is, sadly, yet another sign of the decline of the traditional media. These kinds of cuts are certainly not new and we can expect they will continue to occur. Earlier this year we learned the the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette would cease operations on May 3rd of this year.
A reduction of the magnitude reported at the Washington Post seems likely result in a lesser quality product, which most often results in lower subscriptions (not just in print but also online) which in turn will almost certainly result in lower ad revenues.
Once again, another example of how those selling advertising in the world of media should be looking at their future - and at their next opportunity.
